Reflexology

Reflexology is an art and science based on the principle that there are zones and reflex points in the feet and extremities that correspond to every gland, organ and part of the body. The reflex map of the feet is essentially a mirror of the entire body. Applying specific pressure using thumb, finger and hand techniques to these reflex areas results in the reduction of stress which promotes physiological changes in the body. It is a gentle, holistic modality, working through the energies of the nervous system, the circulatory system, and subtle energy pathways located in the feet and ankles.

There are profound psychological benefits to the nurturing, caring touch of Reflexology. Disrobing for a full body massage can be uncomfortable for many people, often due to physical, sexual, and emotional trauma, body image, or just general unease. In a Reflexology session the client remains fully clothed. It is a beautiful way to feel supported and nurtured, through the feet and extremities, while receiving the therapeutic benefits Reflexology provides throughout the entire body.

How does Reflexology benefit me?

The nerves in our feet access the whole body. There are over 15,000 nerves in the feet, over 7200 in each foot! Massaging the feet and applying pressure to reflex points has a profound effect on the nervous system, helping to reduce stress and helping the body maintain homeostasis. Reflexology can improve circulation, assist the body in clearing toxins, and revitalize energy. It can be used as a preventative and supportive form of health care, or it can be used for general well-being for those of us who really enjoy getting our feet massaged!

What can I expect?

A session begins with a warm towel compress applied to the feet to cleanse and soothe the feet. Relaxing, therapeutic massage to the feet and ankles is given throughout the session to warm up the areas prior to working the zones and reflex points. The practitioner will use their thumb, fingers and hands to apply specific pressure to these points on the feet and ankles. The client’s hands and forearms are massaged at the closing of a session. Reflexology is a deeply relaxing experience. Clients typically fall asleep during their session.
